Our Vision: To achieve a world without T1D and to turn type one into type none.

Our Mission: Accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the world’s largest charitable supporter of T1D research.

Since 1974, JDRF has funded, in whole or in part, every major scientific breakthrough in type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to eventually cure T1D. As the leading national charitable funder of diabetes research in Canada, no organization is more passionate, more committed and more impatient to put an end to T1D than JDRF.

About Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)

More than 300,000 Canadians have type 1 diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. The prevalence of T1D is growing quickly at a rate of 5.1% per year, and Canada has one of the highest incidence rates of T1D for children under 14. There is nothing anyone can do to prevent it, and at present, there is no cure. While we celebrate the major advances in diabetes research so far, we know we have more work to do. All funds raised at A Night of Promise support vital T1D research projects.
